Position Overview:
The GIS Analyst performs professional geographic information systems (GIS) work in support of the City's GIS Division and departmental operations. This position is responsible for maintaining GIS data, producing maps and visualizations, supporting routine spatial analysis activities, and assisting departments with GIS-related requests and applications.
The GIS Analyst works under general supervision and serves as a technical support resource for GIS operations. Responsibilities include maintaining geospatial datasets, supporting field data collection efforts, assisting with GIS application support, and producing cartographic products for internal and public use. This position is classified as a Critical personnel classification for Emergency Response. This means that during an emergency response this position is a subset of essential personnel that must be physically present during an emergency due to the nature of their roles. Critical status is defined as employees whose duties are vital to maintain basic municipal functions during an emergency.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field required. Preferred qualifications include experience using ESRI GIS software, knowledge of GIS mapping principles and geospatial data management, and internship, academic project, or other practical GIS experience.
Licenses of Certifications
A valid Mississippi Driver's License. GIS Professional (GISP) certification preferred but not required.
