Job Description

Summary: 

The Level III/NAS-410 X-Ray Technician is responsible for NDT Level 3 duties, including processes, procedures, techniques, training, qualification, and certification, and will lead quality assurance programs, write and approve radiographic procedures, interpret complex casting flaws, and train lower-level technicians to ensure compliance with aerospace and commercial safety standards. This position may require access to export-controlled technology or software source code that is subject to export controls restrictions under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”) and will therefore be required to meet eligibility criteria under ITAR and EAR regulations.

Duties:

  1. Maintain responsibility for the overall NDT program, implement/execute NDT processes, including Radiography (Computed and Digital), Penetrant, Ultrasonic, and Visual, having a working knowledge of each technology and its strengths and limitations to ensure the proper inspection technique for the task
  2. Execute and document process control checks. Drive processes to continuously improve the business, enable the next generation manufacturing, and ensure compliance with all governing specifications, codes, and standards.
  3. Troubleshoot, provide technical leadership, and correct NDT processes while maintaining product and process flow.
  4. Develop and implement NDT method procedures and techniques.
  5. Inspect production parts; reviews rework and scrap parts.
  6. Perform site assessments and support leadership in audits.
  7. Research and implement new inspection techniques and technologies to improve current processes and support next generation manufacturing processes.
  8. Understand and interpret codes, standards, specifications, and customer requirements related to NDT inspection to meet manufacturing demands and compliance.
  9. Interact with customers, engineering, and quality personnel to review existing, develop new or improved processes as required.
  10. Participate in facility audits (NADCAP, AS9100, internal).
  11. Maintain qualification of production equipment.
  12. Perform other duties or assignments as directed by management.

Competency:

  • Current NAS 410 NDT Level 3 certification in radiographic film. Non-film techniques.
  • Knowledge of other NDT methods including Ultrasonics, Penetrant.
  • Proficiency with metrology software such as PolyWorks, Geomagic, or other relevant platforms.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T principles.
  • Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook for reporting.
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) is a plus.
  • Experience with NADCAP and AS9100.
  • Deep understanding of aluminum metallurgy, casting anomalies, and code standards (such as ASTM, ASME, or AWS) preferred.

  Qualifications/Core Knowledge:

  1. Must pass annual vision examinations (e.g., Jaeger near-vision tests).

  3. Strong working knowledge of manufacturing and quality operations.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work in cross-functional teams and with all levels of personnel.
  5. Ability to coach, manage, change and facilitate team performance

  7. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
  8. Demonstrated work ethic

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college in a related field (or a high school diploma/ GED with at least 4 years of experience in an engineering or quality position); technical certification in ASNT NDT Level III with UT, and PT qualifications; and 3 to 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing facility.

  Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

The job entails frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting. The employee must be able to climb or balance on stairs. The employee is frequently required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Schedule:

The core schedule is 7:00 am to 4:00 pm (this can be flexible depending upon production demands).
