Title: Python Data Analytics & Tableau Developer
Division: Quantitative Engineering, Product and Transformation Division
Location: HYBRID- Onsite 3x per week in the Reston Va location: 2000 Opportunity Way, Reston Va (In the Reston Town Center aka RTC)
Role Identity
Python programmer and data analyst who also knows Tableau - not the other way around.
Division
Quantitative Engineering, Product and Transformation
Work Style
Hybrid
Immediate Deliverable
Migration of 16 26 Tableau report models upon onboarding
Experience Level
~10 15 years; depth and recency matter more than raw years
Active Technical Requirements
Must-Have Skills
Python - Strong working knowledge required. Libraries: Pandas, NumPy, PySpark, SQL.
Tableau - Required, but as a supporting skill, not the lead. Candidate should be comfortable with Desktop, Server, and Prep.
Data Analytics - Ability to look at data and patterns independently and surface insights without being directed step-by-step.
Data Processing - Strong hands-on data processing skills. Note: this is NOT ETL pipeline work (see clarification below).
AWS Familiarity - Working knowledge of the AWS ecosystem (S3, Redshift, Athena, Glue at minimum). Not a cloud architect role, but AWS should not be foreign.
Strong Differentiators/Pluses:
GenAI curiosity - The team is moving toward GenAI. Client wants someone who is genuinely excited to engage with AI/ML tools. This is an attitude screen, not a skills screen. Ask candidates: 'What have you done on your own to explore AI or GenAI tools?'
Mortgage Experience/Financial services / federal data environment experience - Familiarity with governance, compliance sensibilities, and data quality standards in regulated industries.
Tableau certifications or public portfolio (e.g., Tableau Public profile)
Tableau Migration Benchmark
The team has 16 26 Tableau report models to migrate upon onboarding. Use this as a calibration tool during screens:
| Migration Speed Expectation | |
| Simple migration | No more than 2 weeks |
| Individual conversions | Minutes - not hours, not a full business day |
A candidate who is unclear on migration timelines, has never done bulk migrations, or describes a full-day process for individual conversions is not the right fit for this engagement.
Soft Skills - These Are Dealbreakers
Please weight these heavily. Prior placement in this role did not work out largely due to communication and ownership failures. The client has been patient but is explicit: these are non-negotiable.
| Required Behaviors | |
| Communication | Proactive, clear, timely, and consistent - especially with technical teams. Must not go silent when things get hard. |
| Autonomy | Operates independently without hand-holding. Does not wait to be told what to do next. |
| Ownership | Takes full ownership of tasks and follows them through to completion. Does not drop the ball. |
| Problem Solving | Identifies and resolves issues proactively. Brings solutions, not just problems. |
| Cross-team Communication | Knows how to bridge business and technical stakeholders. Can translate between both worlds. |
Ideal Candidate Profile Summary
The benchmark candidate for this role has the following characteristics:
12+ years of experience in data analytics and BI development, actively used through the present
Python as a primary working language (not just listed on a resume)
Tableau power user who has performed bulk migrations at enterprise scale
Cloud-native experience, particularly in AWS (Redshift, S3, Athena, Glue)
Financial services or federal agency background a strong plus
Demonstrated curiosity about AI/ML - self-directed learner
Communicator first, technologist second - someone who over-communicates and drives clarity
When submitting candidates, please address the following in your write-up:
Confirm Python is an active, current skill - not dormant. Years of use and last used.
Describe the candidate's Tableau migration experience specifically. How many reports? What was their turnaround time?
Note any financial services, federal, or regulated-data environment experience.
Include the candidate's response to: 'What have you done on your own to explore AI or GenAI tools?'
Provide a concrete example of a time the candidate proactively identified and resolved a problem without being asked.
Note any Tableau certifications or public portfolio links.
